HISTORY OF MOUNTAIN STATE BUSINESS COLLEGE

Mountain State College was founded in September. 1888. by the late Albert Grant Sine. The school was originally located on Market Street just above Third. In 1901 the College was moved into the second and third floors of the Camden Theatre Building on Market Street just above Seventh. which location was completely destroyed by fire on November 30. 1929.

In January. following this disaster. the school was moved into its present building at the corner of Sixteenth and Spring Streets. A recent tabulation of records. although somewhat incomplete because of loss by fire. discloses the following approximate facts: 25.000 students have attended the College; 2.050 of these are engaged in business in Parkersburg; 1100 are in United States Civil Service work; 15.000 others are engaged in business throughout the United States and in many foreign countries.

The character of any school is reflected in the character of its student body and graduates. Our young men and young women are self-controlling. They realize that they come here to equip themselves for business and it is a real delight to observe the manly and womanly spirit of good behavior.

cheerfulness and enthusiasm on their part. The buoyancy and alacrity with which they work. the vigor and earnestness manifested in the performance of their daily duties. has a wholesome. satisfying effect upon all who observe them. We do not believe there is a happier or more enthusiastic body of young people in any school. public or private. anywhere.

The great success of this institution is evidence of its popularity and-most substantial proof of its superiority. Its growth is indeed exceptional and without doubt, unprecedented in the history of similar institutions. Real merit. thorough instruction. satisfactory results. honorable dealings and promises fulfilled have won for it a reputation that guarantees it a still greater prosperity. The spirit of Mountain State is progressive and its chief characteristics are thoroughness and efficiency,

while its success is due.

in a measure, to the influence and kindly assistance of former students who are living testimonials of the worth and integrity of the school. The army of graduates holding positions of trust and responsibility in this city and state. and practically every other state in the Union, speak with emphasis of the meritorious work of this institution. In the selection of the School's faculty. extreme care has been taken to secure not only teachers who have mastered the best and latest methods of instruction.

not only teachers with large teaching and business experience, but teachers who know how to instruct those placed under their charge. Due to the methods of instruction employed by our teachers. they have been successful in interesting many boys and girls who have accomplished little or nothing in other schools.

Mountain State College is particularly fortunate in having such sincere, conscientious and loyal teachers as members of its faculty. They command the respect and confidence of the students and inspire them to put forth their best efforts. Always anxious to promote the welfare of the students, Mountain State teachers have, by a thorough understanding of the individual student, contributed in a great measure to the success of this school. They are men and women of the highest type, and have been members of our faculty for an average of more than ten years
