On Wednesday, November 27, 1895, the finest hotel between Cincinnati and Washington, was opened to the public. On that date the magnificent Hotel Jackson, Parkersburg W.VA , opened its doors. Immediately its fame spread until now its reputation is of the highest all through this section. In finish and appointments it is easily the peer of any like house in this State and fully equals the best in our large cities.

The building it self, constructed of buff pressed brick and trimmed with Slone, stands on the corner of Market street and Court Square and presents a striking appearance on account of its beautiful architecture. It is an impressive structure, designed in good taste and at ones conveys the impression of being Substantial and well built. the visitor looses the sense of its fine exterior by an examination of the gorgeous interior Fixtures 7 Furnishings. all four floors are exquisitely furnished and elaborated. there are sixty five rooms all of them Superbly furnished parlors are found on the second floor.

The decorations are all in white and gold and the furniture is in keeping with the prevailing colors, even to the piano which is an expensive and magnificent instrument finished in white and gold. The hangings of these rooms are exquisite. The dining room is on this floor and is in keeping in everyway with the palatial appearance of the balance of the rooms.

This room is heavily carpeted and fitted with round tables of sizes to seat from four to eight persons. As stated, open fire-places are found in this room, adding greatly to its very fine appearance. The ladies' reception room is

also on this floor. It is handsomely finished and elegantly furnished in quartered oak, thus rendering it one of the most attractive and beautiful apartments in the house. The entrance to this model house is on Market street, an elevator carrying guests to all four floors.

The sleeping apartments are furnished and finished in the same elegant style, every convenience being provided. Another modern, and in some senses novel, feature of the Jackson is the small reception rooms on each floor for the accommodation of transient guests These are a great room to the commercial men, and the designer's foresight is heartily appreciated.

The cuisine department is under the management of a competent chef, and is proving one of the hotel's strongest drawing cards. The building is in fact magnificent and one of which even citizen of Parkersburg should feel Justly proud.

The proprietor, Mr. H. I. Protzman is formerly of Dayton, and is a man of wide knowledge and experience in the business, having conducted some of the best houses in this section of the country. He carefully watches all details and it is probably owing more to this fact than aught else the splendid success of the Jackson is due.
